“I wanna rock!” This, of course, is one of the most well known lines ever spoken in regards to rock & roll. This simple statement conveys a lot of meaning. Yes, we ALL wanna rock! That’s precisely why we buy a guitar to begin with!

Sure, some people are more drawn to folk or country music, but the most people want to learn to play rock guitar. When first starting out, however, beginners usually get stuck with playing “Amazing Grace” or “Yankee Doodle”. Now, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with these classic songs, but that’s really not what most people have in mind when starting their guitar lessons.

Simple songs like these are usually taught first because they’re the easiest to learn. They give you a sense of satisfaction in knowing that you can play a song! Over time, you should evolve and progress. Learning one song at a time will progressively make things easier. You will finally be able to move on to rock guitar lessons for beginners rather than kids’ songs!

You can find lessons practically everywhere, including the internet. You can actually find a few online for free! However, the majority of lessons are found in books or on DVD’s. You can also learn a few rock songs through a private instructor if you decide to hire one. No matter how you choose to learn, all lessons teach the use of power chords. So, what is a power chord?

Power chords are those powerful chords you hear in some of the greatest rock songs. Some people like to refer to them as the “meat” of the song. It is the heavy lifting that you hear in a lot of songs. You can learn more about them when you take rock guitar lessons—especially if you learn with an electric guitar!

The great thing about power chords is that they’re easy to play when compared to most other chords. Typically, you will only need to use two fingers. Truth be told, they don’t sound good by how you play them, but rather the size of your amp. Sadly, they don’t sound amazing on practice amps, but you have to start somewhere.

As your skills begin to grow, you may be able to afford a larger amp that can handle the sound that power chords produce. Learning rock guitar will test your solo abilities.

Everybody wants to play guitar solos, and while they’re awesome, they can also be frustrating. Some even take weeks to learn, let alone master! The most important thing is to remember that your lessons are called “lessons” for a reason.  They’re not created to irritate you; rather, they’re designed to help you improve your skills.

You need to master the power chords and guitar solos if you want to try your chances of being a rock star! These two techniques are your key to playing rock music. Everybody buys an instrument because they dream of playing someday. After all, you bought yourself a guitar because you wanna rock. Rock Guitar Lessons For Beginners

Of course, there are some guitarists that are drawn to the instrument for its country or folk appeal, but the majority wants to learn rock guitar. However, no matter how much you want to, you can’t play your favorite songs without some good rock guitar lessons.

Usually, beginners would love to jump right in to their favorite songs, and get discouraged when they end up stuck on “Yankee Doodle” or “Amazing Grace”. This is usually not what people have in mind.

There is, however, a method to the madness. Children’s songs are usually taught first because they are the simplest songs to learn. These songs give you the ability to see your progress very quickly, and they teach you the basics that you need to progress even more.

Over time, your skills will evolve. You will begin to play simple rock and roll songs, and eventually move to the point where you can play whatever you want. It may not seem that way now, but your patience will be rewarded.

There are dozens of methods for learning rock guitar. You may even find a few online for free, but most decent lessons are found in books and DVD lessons. If you are taking a more traditional approach with an instructor, you will learn a few rock lessons with them, as well.

Regardless of the method, rock guitar lessons all have one major thing in common. They all teach you the use of “power chords”. Power chords are the heavy chords that are heard in almost all rock music. A power chord is defined as a chord consisting of the first root, fifth and eighth in degree, or octave, of the scale. For those of you who think that this is a new language, let’s break that down a little bit.

Power chords are the heavy lifting of a song, so to speak. As the name implies, it is the power behind the song. Power chords usually sound better on an electric guitar, rather than acoustic, because of the high levels of volume and distortion. If you are looking to play rock guitar, chances are that you already own an electric guitar.

The good thing about power chords is that they are easier to play than regular chords. Usually, you only need two fingers. Actually, power chords depend less on your ability to play them, and more on the size and power of your amp. This means that your practice amp may not give the same quality as a professional one, but you have to start somewhere. Once you have the skill and the money, you can invest in a larger amp later.

Rock guitar lessons will test your solo ability, as well. Guitar solos are, of course, what draws a lot of people to the guitar, but learning them can be extremely frustrating. It will probably take weeks, or even months to master a solo, depending on the difficulty. The important thing to remember is that a lesson is meant to learn from, not to demoralize you. Do not get discouraged.

You bought a guitar because you want to rock. Now it’s time to go out and find rock guitar lessons that will get you where you want to go.
