Even those not interested in entertainment news will have seen or heard about the video footage of Kanye West jumping on the stage during the 2009 MTV video awards whilst Taylor Swift was making her acceptance speech.
Taylor is no idol of mine, and I think the MTV video awards are a waste of time, but really – it was her big moment. As a society, has all respect and decorum been forgotten about? Apparently so, after looking at the lyrics that Kanye uses in his songs. Now having done that, and ruined my appetite for the day, I really don’t think it’s that out of character for him.
Which brings me to another point – why does pop music have to be so freakin’ lifeless? Most of the stuff in the charts is just crap icing on top of crap cake. These days I just can’t be bothered with pop music. It probably says something about our culture that we don’t even care to think beyond the shallowest levels in anything that we do. All most people want is pithy, nonsensical platitudes in our music and copies of copies for the rest of their lives.
Yet that’s another tangent altogether, so let’s get back to Kanye the moronic egomaniac. Should we be surprised? Probably not In a world where idiocy is rewarded with airplay and publicity, more of the same can be expected. Everybody wants their five minutes of fame even should it be someone elses five minutes of fame that you’re taking. I have no idea why we should take any notice of what these people say or do. Do they have any qualifications that would make me want to value their opinion?
Of course, the same is true here – who cares what I say or do? Who I am to be giving my opinion?? I love to rant and rave about anything that crosses the circuits in my little brain – whether I’m qualified to comment on it or not.
I guess I should try writing pop music…

MTV VMA 09
The world was shocked last week at MTV’s Video Music Awards as Taylor Swift deservingly got the award for the best female video. However her night and many others watching was ruined when the rather stupid Kanye West stormed onto the stage and stated Beyonces video was much better. The actual quote was;
“Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’m gonna let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best videos of all-time”
A big point is that Taylor Swift is not currently bathing in money and although she was successful in 2008 Beyonce has a lot more money. Yet still her video contains an original story set in a high school. She asked her brothers school if they would let her do the video there. Taylor had spent a lot of time and money into thinking about this video and where it was going to be set. In all fairness what was the difference between the current Beyonce video and all of her others. A bit of dancing with two other extras is the norm for Beyonce. The good thing is that all of Swift’s videos to date have taken time, planning and have had a storyline to them. Ovbiously Beyonce spends a long time learning the routines for the videos but they still never seem to be original.
However it bought huge amounts of people to watch and re-watch the show and even though Kanye was boo’d off stage no publicity is bad publicity right? So an important question needs to be asked. The real question is did MTV and Kanye set out to upset Taylor or was it all just a coincidence? The thing that caused controversy at last year’s event was of course Russell Brand’s rants. Are MTV trying to get more viewers? Wait and see if something big happens next year, after all three starts a trend.
If you like music why not take up an instrument? Guitars come in all kinds from electric guitars all the way to bass guitars.
