There are a lot of kids and teens these days who give up on playing the drums when they realize it’s not as easy as doing it in Rock Band. Be sure to find a drum kit you can pick up locally since they are large and paying for shipping often defeats the purpose of buying used.
Second, go online and look for drum instruction dvd. There are several of dvd courses available with professionals walking you through the basic beats and teaching you techniques that would cost you hundreds of dollars if done with private lessons.
