Green Eggs Band

Brad Nicarry of Green Eggs says "We play a wide mix of covers, everything from Jackson Five to Kanye West, to Garth Brooks, to Guns N’ Roses."

He and his brother, Brian, started the band about 11 years ago.

"Me and my brother, we found out that there were bands that were making a living out of it," Nicarry said. "We thought, ‘Hey, that sounds like fun.’"

In the beginning, the Nicarrys named the band, "Green Eggs and Spam."

But the name brought a lawsuit from Spam and questions from Dr. Seuss.

"We finally acquiesced," Nicarry said. "They left us alone after we dropped the ‘and Spam.’"

The Nicarrys are joined by Matt Day and drummer Doug Black. The Nicarrys and Day alternate instruments, between keyboard, guitar and bass.

Since its start, Green Eggs has played more than 800 shows up and down the East Coast, from Vermont to Key West, Fla.

"We’ll just try to put on a great show and entertain people who show up," Nicarry said. "Hopefully, we’ll play some songs to spill drinks to."

A local product, the band is comprised of four members, drummer Doug Black, guitarist Steve Nelson, and brothers Brad and Brian Nicarry on lead vocals and guitar. And while their titles may indicate which instrument they’re supposed to play, Black is the only one who remains a constant throughout the show — idle, surely, only because he is trapped by his drum set. Nelson and the Nicarrys, on the other hand, spend their evenings trading guitars and swapping the microphone — one after another they trade positions, a well-organized system that has clearly developed over practice, and time. Each taking their turn being the lead singer, the lead guitarist, the ringleader in what has become a must-see act.
