Keyboard Lessons For Beginners

Man shows his need for inner peace by playing music. The keyboard, as a popular alternative to an organ or a piano due to its accessibility, has become a favorite of many individuals. Taking keyboard lessons not only helps a person to attain his goals of learning to play the instrument, but it also serves as an opportunity to expand his horizons as he acquires new skills. Here are some thoughts on how to learn keyboard playing.

Basic knowledge in music and its technical aspects is not a prerequisite in taking keyboard lessons: these are indeed included and discussed through the course of the study. The lessons you have learned in grade school music can help a lot in learning how to play the keyboard although it is not required.

As opposed to what most people think about the difficulty of learning to play any instrument for the first time, playing the keyboard is actually easier to understand compared to other instruments. Unlike a guitar, a keyboard is digitally tuned so a beginner will not find it hard to set the instrument prior to playing it.

The keyboard is not as confusing as other instruments like the violin. The latter is a fretless music instrument, which means the user would have to be familiar with the “feel” of the violin and learn primarily by ear. In contrast, the keyboard has keys in black and white and each key produces a sound corresponding to a note.

A keyboard lesson for beginners starts with basic rules. The student is given an overview on how the keyboard is played and an introductory lesson which includes explaining the difference between a half step and a whole step.

Each white key signifies a letter from A to G, while each black key may represent either a sharp or a flat. There are black keys placed between white keys with some break points where the white keys are placed beside each other.

If you partition the keyboard, you will have a set of two black keys and another set of three black keys. The C note is the far left white key in the two black key set. The notes D, E, F, G, A, and B correspond the next right white keys to the C key respectively.

The next white key after B is C again and this completes one octave on the keyboard. Once the basics are learned, the student’s discipline and determination to practice and use everything he learned will determine the result of the keyboard lessons.

The human soul is represented by music. Contrary to popular belief, taking keyboard lessons to be able to make and produce music is not complicated at all. In fact, human nature is ingrained with music and with this in mind, the ability to make music does not need to be difficult.
