You may not assume that playing a guitar is as hardcore as playing more physical sports, but it is. Can you see yourself jogging a mile without stretching your leg muscles? Playing guitar without stretching your fingers isn’t something anyone should do. You likely don’t assume this, but playing a guitar can mean some serious hand and arm muscle damage. And everyone knows that straining the most important parts of the body is definitely something to avoid. Which is the reason why you shouldn’t forget to warm up before any guitar session or gig. Have you ever experienced that discomfort in your hands while playing your favorite song? Continuing playing that way could lead to serious injury. If the pain persists and worsens, you should stop. Just try to think things through next time and learn to warm up. One of the often used methods of warming up is by doing a few scales that you run up and down a number of times. Try to loosen your muscles by doing scales and going faster gradually. Then comes chord transitions. Perform a few minimal chord transitions and then work it out from there. Slowly speed up just like you did with the scales. When you feel as though you?re ready, try to maintain a comfortable playing position. Keep your hands where they can play easily and give them enough space for playing. If you find yourself feeling an ache with any other parts, no matter how easy to dismiss, change positions. You?ll be able to avoid straining yourself while throughly enjoying making music. It is best to regularly warm up before playing, so remember that every time you pick up your guitar. Doing this will make playing guitar an easier and safer experience.
