So, You Want to Learn How to Play Guitar Solo? Read This First!

Guitars are not straight-forward and simple. They are eccentric and flashy. People want to learn how to play in order to stand out.

To do that, one must first learn how to play a guitar solo in various styles—or at least in their favorite style.

Think for a moment of an average band. Sure, it can be hard to match the charisma of a lead singer, but the guitarist is always close behind in popularity. Ladies tend to go for guitarists because the guitar is awesome and hot! Typically, guys love being the guitarist because they love the solo.

It’s absolutely true! All guys like to daydream about showing off on stage to play guitar solo for five minutes! It’s practically encrypted into every guy’s DNA. It can be awesome. Even as the rest of the band continues to play, they are only playing second fiddle in the amazing creativity and presence of the lead guitarist.

If you are longing to play guitar solo, this guide will break it all down to you in simplest form.

Guitar solo are free from technique, so much of it you can’t learn from one source. When you play solo, it all comes out naturally. In fact, playing guitar solo is the closest you can get to “improve” jazz or blues.

Obviously, a lot of preparation goes into learning how to conquer guitar solo.
To begin with, you must first learn to play at an advanced or expert level. Sadly, no beginner can learn how to play solo within just a few weeks. It’s not that easy. In fact, many solo don’t look difficult, but there’s no way one can play them without complex blends, “pull-offs”, “hammer-ons”, and other expert techniques. You can learn these techniques rather quickly, but it’s more advisable to learn all the basics first.

Once you learn all the fundamentals, then the advanced techniques become much easier. If you’re interested in learning how to play guitar solo, you need to look into “pull-offs” and “hammer-ons”, because you will need to use these 2 techniques often.

Guitar solo use a lot of the high end strings, many of which are notes that are down on the lower 3rd of the guitar neck. Up until this point, you will have more than likely stuck exclusively with the top 3rd section, because that’s the location of the all the chords and power chords. For solo, the focus will change to the lower 3rd section.

Now, you’ll probably run into some complications. For instance, the frets are much closer at the bottom third than they are at the top of the neck. The margin for error is much higher. This is especially true if you have long or thick fingers. Playing guitar solo will really test the speed of your fingers. Don’t think about attempting a solo until you are an expert with strumming and shifting through the strings with ease.

The guitar solo masters will really change the tempo on just a beat and can shift from a slow solo to a frantic pace back and forth easily. However, guitar solo do take time to learn, and are generally not for beginners.

With that said, learning how to play guitar solo can be a wonderful way to expand your horizons, so learn yourself some scales, get familiar with a key or two, and get started learning a few solo!

Learn How To Play Rock Guitar

Author: artmaraut13  //  Category: Entertainment

The number one reason for most people to choose the guitar over other instruments is simple. They want to rock!

Rock Guitar Lessons For Beginners

Of course, there are some guitarists that are drawn to the instrument for its country or folk appeal, but the majority wants to learn rock guitar. However, no matter how much you want to, you can’t play your favorite songs without some good rock guitar lessons.

Usually, beginners would love to jump right in to their favorite songs, and get discouraged when they end up stuck on “Yankee Doodle” or “Amazing Grace”. This is usually not what people have in mind.

There is, however, a method to the madness. Children’s songs are usually taught first because they are the simplest songs to learn. These songs give you the ability to see your progress very quickly, and they teach you the basics that you need to progress even more.

Over time, your skills will evolve. You will begin to play simple rock and roll songs, and eventually move to the point where you can play whatever you want. It may not seem that way now, but your patience will be rewarded.

There are dozens of methods for learning rock guitar. You may even find a few online for free, but most decent lessons are found in books and DVD lessons. If you are taking a more traditional approach with an instructor, you will learn a few rock lessons with them, as well.

Regardless of the method, rock guitar lessons all have one major thing in common. They all teach you the use of “power chords”. Power chords are the heavy chords that are heard in almost all rock music. A power chord is defined as a chord consisting of the first root, fifth and eighth in degree, or octave, of the scale. For those of you who think that this is a new language, let’s break that down a little bit.

Power chords are the heavy lifting of a song, so to speak. As the name implies, it is the power behind the song. Power chords usually sound better on an electric guitar, rather than acoustic, because of the high levels of volume and distortion. If you are looking to play rock guitar, chances are that you already own an electric guitar.

The good thing about power chords is that they are easier to play than regular chords. Usually, you only need two fingers. Actually, power chords depend less on your ability to play them, and more on the size and power of your amp. This means that your practice amp may not give the same quality as a professional one, but you have to start somewhere. Once you have the skill and the money, you can invest in a larger amp later.

Rock guitar lessons will test your solo ability, as well. Guitar solos are, of course, what draws a lot of people to the guitar, but learning them can be extremely frustrating. It will probably take weeks, or even months to master a solo, depending on the difficulty. The important thing to remember is that a lesson is meant to learn from, not to demoralize you. Do not get discouraged.

You bought a guitar because you want to rock. Now it’s time to go out and find rock guitar lessons that will get you where you want to go.

How To Play Acoustic Guitar For Beginners

Author: artmaraut13  //  Category: Entertainment

Hey, if you want to learn to play the acoustic guitar that’s awesome. Once you learn to play this can become a hobby and if you really enjoy playing it, you just may someday become a member of a regular band.

Personally, I would rather play an acoustic guitar than an electric guitar. I just love the feel and the sound you get from this kind of guitar. It’s great to play anywhere and its sound doesn’t drown out the vocals or other instruments like an electric guitar can. It’s much easier to bring it along with you than an electric guitar and also requires far less maintenance.

If you so chose to learn to play acoustic guitar, at first it will be difficult but will become easier if you practice it regularly. Believe me, after a couple years of steady practice you will be playing it with ease. Just follow these five rules and you’re likely to learn it with much success:

1.    Before you start acoustic guitar lessons purchase a rather cheap guitar that you feel comfortable with playing. You need not sink a whole lot of money into a fancy, new guitar. Consider a more expensive guitar once you’re serious about playing and you’re at a more advanced level.

2.    Pick a good time of day to play. You’ll want to choose a time when you’re least likely to be disturbed and you can fully devote that time to playing. Practice 5-7 days per week. Never attempt to play for more than an hour. You’ll become more likely to pick up bad habits.

3.    Grasp the guitar and hold it how it correctly. Become more familiar with the sound each string produces by striking one string at a time. Work your way down the string then back up by picking one string at a time.

4.    Once you become well acquainted with the strings, focus on the guitar’s neck. Practice playing new notes one by one. Check the position of your left hand and pay attention to how the note sounds.

5.    When you’re ready, move onto playing individual chords. First, learn the simple two or three fingered chords and progress from there. These chords are the “E Minor”, “A Minor”, and “D Minor”. Chords are a great place to start when learning acoustic guitar basics.

The most traditional method of taking acoustic guitar lessons is through a private instructor at least once a week. I’m not saying you shouldn’t consider this, but personally, I’m not in favor of it either. This is because there are several disadvantages to private lessons. These lessons are rather expensive, at least $150 for 2 lessons each week. That was the rate when I thought about taking lessons myself. You’ll also be spending several hours per week traveling to meet with the instructor. The instructor will work along with you and will be there if you get stuck, which is nice. Still, I’ve seen many instructors who care more about the money than they do teaching. You must also realize that these instructors work with a number of other beginners and may not be as “personal” as you’d like them to be. Still, that varies from one instructor to another.

Some beginners struggle learning and playing in front of another individual whose skill level is way above theirs. Many of them would just rather learn by themselves which I found to be quite common. When I refused to spend money on private lessons, I tried to learn on my own. This did not work out too well because I simply didn’t know enough about the basics to teach myself acoustic guitar lessons.

If you can’t afford private lessons or simply refuse to go that route, you need not go it alone. There are some handy online and print resources such as Jamorama Acoustic. This course offers downloadable videos and furnishes a beginner with all the material, techniques, tricks, and lessons needed to get started. In fact, I learned a lot of valuable information from this site.

These online acoustic guitar lessons teach you nearly everything a private instructor can teach. Not to mention that they charge only a one-time fee plus enable you to use their course whenever your schedule permits. Learning online is more cost and time effective than taking private lessons. The material is just as good. And with the fast-forward and rewind features in their videos, there’s nothing handier than that when you’re learning to play.

I strongly feel that an online course is much better than taking private lessons. Taking private lessons can easily cost you $1,000 to $2,000 per year, especially when the monthly lessons cost $150. Yet some prefer learning via a private instructor. As long as you feel OK learning how to play the acoustic guitar online then I’m confident that a home study course would be just right for you.

How you choose to learn is up to you. This all depends on how much time and money you’re willing to invest while you learn to play the acoustic guitar.

Master & Learn Guitar Chords – Top Tips

Author: artmaraut13  //  Category: Entertainment

For most, guitar chords are the most difficult part of learning how to play. These series of notes can be difficult to remember, and can challenge even the most talented guitarists.

Get The Most From Your Guitar Chord Lessons

When you learn to play guitar chords, you are using multiple fingers and strings at the same time. The combinations can be awkward, and it can be very difficult to retain all of the information that you need.

A common problem for beginners is hand placement. Many guitarists, when first starting out, get discouraged because they have difficulty getting a clean note. This is especially true of people with larger hands. The reason for this is not about hand size at all, but about hand position.

If you are struggling to learn guitar chords, check the position of the thumb on your fret hand. If your thumb is high on the back of the neck, your position is wrong. It should actually be sitting on the lower portion of the back of the neck, behind the second finger. It will be uncomfortable at first, but it will give you a much better reach at the frets, and a cleaner sound. It is very easy to revert back to old habits, so make sure that you spend some time practicing this position. Concentrate more on your hand position than your playing, and soon, it will become natural to you.

The guitar is very difficult to learn if you do not have the right knowledge or support. For example, if you have a five string chord that you are having trouble with, there are probably two main problems. First, if you are just starting out, attempting a five string chord just doesn’t make sense. This is an advanced technique. Focus on two or three string chords first, then work your way up. Second, correct finger placement is crucial. The trick to learning is having good resources. You can find videos and information all over the Internet, at sites like learnandmasterguitar.com, that can help you. Just a small change in finger position can make a huge difference.

The best way to learn guitar chords is with some form of training. However, guitar lessons are not cheap. Internet resources like learnandmasterguitar.com can give you many of the same techniques, tips, and lessons that an instructor can, but for much less.

Definitely make sure that you find some form of training. Learning guitar chords is difficult enough without going through everything on your own. If you try to teach yourself, you will be lucky to learn the chords within months. Whether you have the time or money for an instructor, or simply find a few good lessons online, make sure that you have some form of training. Once you have a chance to learn, all you need is practice.

Practice is the most important part of learning to play guitar and chords. You should set aside a half hour a day for practice. While many guitarists have longer practice sessions, beginners tend to get bored very quickly, or start developing bad habits. Once you have developed your technique, you can begin to lengthen your sessions.

Make sure that you have no distractions. Find a quiet room and pick a time of day when you have the most energy. Since chords are such an important part of guitar playing, you should devote half of your practice time exclusively to them. Start with simple chords, and work your way up. Within two weeks, you should be playing the basic chords like a pro, with clean and easy chord progressions. It takes patience and dedication to learn and master guitar chords, not just knowledge and skill.

Keep in mind that guitar chords and songs are directly related. Once you learn the chords, you can play thousands of different songs, or even write your own.

Learn Left Handed Guitar Playing?

Author: artmaraut13  //  Category: Entertainment

Nearly 90% of the world’s population is right handed. This means that they use right hand for practically everything. But, what about the left handed people? In the music industry, there are a few people play guitar left hand. Jimi Hendrix, for instance, was left handed. Is this really all that surprising? Other left handed artists switch the strings for their own benefit.

How do lefties learn how to play a custom made, right handed guitar?
Just as long as aren’t quitting, and are among the left handed people who try really hard to play your own way, you can benefit from reading this. There are a couple of things you can actually do: firstly, you can switch the strings, or you can choose to play the guitar upside down. Sounds outrageous, doesn’t it? It’s still a fact and very much effective.

Some articles state it’s way difficult to learn left handed guitar with it upside down, while others believe that nothing is impossible as long as you put your heart into it. The idea of rotating a guitar and playing it backwards can be both accepted and used.
Using basic chords, a left hand player can place his or her fingers on the same set of strings, only it has to be turned around but with the same, basic strings. Regardless of how accustomed people are to playing right handed, some left handed guitarists have introduced new methods.

To start with, you must equip yourself with a good guitar guide or instruction manual. Taking left handed guitar lessons with an upside down guitar does not necessarily mean changing the way fingering should be done. The placement of your fingers will still remain the same, with the only difference relying on the finger you use on the fret.

Typically, when playing a right handed guitar with a right hand, the C would represent the 4th finger must be positioned at the 3rd fret dipping on the 5th string. Then, your 3rd finger must lie on the 2nd fret pressing on the 4th string. Last, your index finger should be on the 1st fret down on the 2nd string.

With learning how to play guitar left hand, the playing should be done in an inverted way. Note that your last string will be on top and the fret would still remain the same. Things can be difficult if you’ve no guitar to practice playing with. Be sure to follow what the diagram shows, and that you don’t make the mistake of strumming the “forbidden” strings in each chord.

This kind of technique is challenging, indeed. So, begin with those chords that only require 2 or 3 of your fingers for right now. Basic chords, such as C, A, G, E, & D, are examples. Once you get the hang of these, try working on harder ones. If you find that you have a hard time coping with this technique to play guitar left hand, you may have to settle with more conventional ways of playing. That is, actually playing right handed even though you are left handed.
