The Apple i-phone is predominately marketed at the mobile phone customer – and includes a huge number bonus items so it is probably one of the most purchased phones on the market. Exclusive to the 02 network in Britain, the majority are taken on pay monthly contract, and it is also available on a pay as you go service for about £450.

The device features a touch sensitive screen sensitive system, with the vast majority of functions carried out by pressing and sliding across the display. Impressively, it will show over a quarter of a million shades. The touch screen is more impressive than many smartphones in that it is multi touch sensitive, so you can tap 2 or multiple items without risking malfunction with the device as with some similar phones.

The latest Iphone release, the 3GS includes integrated G.P.S. hardware, an improvement over earlier triangulating techniques used by earlier IPhone handsets. In addition, the iPhone 3GS can act as a sat-nav device in addition to its telephony features.

This is not all however – as you should imagine, it’s too an iPod – a very common music playback version. With its impressive sixteen gigabyte or thirty two gigabyte recording (according to edition you select), the device is able to hold huge quantities of your cds, downloaded podcasts, dvds and television shows.

The Iphone gets its content from the iTunes ecommerce shop – Apple’s own ecommerce system which sells and copies tracks and video to iPod and iPhone mobile phones encoded by Apple’s proprietry format. ?    There is a huge variety of material to choose from.  There is something available for all levels, and there are a number of great materials from fantastic musicians who want to share their knowledge with you.  Many of them are also experienced teachers who know what they are talking about
?    The large majority of it is free!  This is always good news.  However, there are also programs which cost money.  Be sure before you part with your hard-earned pennies as you could get something just as good for free.
?    Another advantage online tutorials have over books is that you can often see a video demonstration of what you are trying to learn with step-by-step instructions.   This is also good because you can rewind the video and go at your own pace.

Learn Piano Online – The Cons

?    The main disadvantage is that you cannot interact with your teacher.  You will need to become a little more pro-active to find out the answers to any questions you may have.
?    No one will be able to correct your mistakes.  If you are doing something wrong then you may not realise. This is where the expertise of a teacher can really come in handy.  Bad habits are difficult to break later on. 
?    When searching for an online piano lesson, be sure to go with one which is trustworthy and reputable.  As in the last point, acquiring bad habits from poor instruction could go undetected and be very difficult to resurrect even if they are discovered.  It is important to do your research thoroughly, especially if you intend on spending money!

Hurry! You had better get a move on quickly. Don’t let anyone tell you that the space race is over – it’s only just beginning. It is almost time for the Bestival, so you need to act fast. What I am referring to is the Space Oddity fancy dress theme at this year’s IOW Bestival. It is a perfect theme to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the original Apollo 11 moon landing.

Whether you are a budding Barbarella or the dashing D’Artagnon of the Millennium Falcon, you need to get busy with your costume. From my previous experience, I found the people to be great and inspiring, fueling my anticipation over the whole weekend!

The Bestival 2009 is set to blast off in its now familiar setting at the Robin Hill Country Park from the 11-13 September. The Bestival this year includes some fine acts such as Massive Attack and Lily Allen, along with the appropriately named ‘They Came From the Stars’.

The lowest note is the fattest note.  It is also called the sixth string.   What is known as the first string is the highest and the thinnest note.

Place it in between your index and thumb.  Holding the pick in this manner may cause a little discomfort but it is certainly worthwhile. It is because it is in this position that you are in control of the pick and the strumming. Another way is by making a fist and pressing the pick between your fingers and thumb.

2. You’re going to need some form of teaching. In an ideal situation you would take private lessons teaching you the music you want to play. If this isn’t possible, there are plenty of excellent multimedia tuition materials available these days and even interactive computer software such as Rocket Piano.

3. Don’t overstretch yourself to begin with. Don’t try to take on a piece of music that is beyond your current skill level. It is vitally important that you maintain your interest and enthusiasm and nothing is guaranteed to dampen this more than totally over-stretching yourself and becoming frustrated.

4. Try to get advice from experienced piano players. Try to go along to piano recitals and such. in your local area and speak to the performers and ask them for any tips and tricks that helped them along the way. This shouldn’t be too hard because musicians are friendly people more often or not.

5. Practice, practice, practice. The more you can practice, the better. Repetition is key to being able to play the piano very well. There really is no substitute for regular effort.

So that’s the five steps. Five things to keep in mind as you learn the piano. Playing the piano is a great skill to have so make sure you keep at it.
